I was introduced to Team Project You through a friend, and instantly wanted to be involved in the organisation. The aims to link physical and mental health care into one system are two areas that are strongly linked. Being active, is a top priority for me because I enjoy the way it makes makes me feel. It makes me feel happy, strong, confident, structured and focused. I have learnt in the past few years that when I have periods of time when I cannot exercise, all of those positive qualities I just listed go out the window. I feel unhappy, on edge, self-conscious and lost. So if I can help those wanting to make changes to their overall health, I would love to support them with the mental health aspects of their journey and enable them to feel the positive benefits of making a commitment to themselves.
I found my passion in helping those who are experiencing mental health challenges, during my time at university. I would like to say I always ‘knew’ I wanted to be a therapist but it was actually during university that I learnt about how therapy can change peoples lives. From here, I have worked in various settings such as the NHS, charities settings and private sectors and genuinely loved what I do. It has always felt like a privilege to have someone share their struggles with me, so that I can help them to understand their feelings and then empower them to overcome (or manage) these difficulties for themselves.
I specialising in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), which is a structured form of talking therapy. CBT focuses on what difficulties you are currently struggling with and what we can do to help you manage better. The CBT approach focus on 2 areas. Firstly, CBT helps you to understand and challenges your ‘cognitions’ which is your thought process, worries and thinking traps. Secondly, CBT provides you with ways to reclaim your life through more helpful, healthy and joyful behaviours.
